Life is a wild, crazy, wonderful, magical thing.  Amid the hustle and bustle, it’s so easy to let the small, beautiful moments slip by unnoticed.  Stress, work, family, bills all pile up like an insurmountable mountain, casting shadows over the small, precious moments that make life beautiful.  It’s common for us all to find ourselves feeling stressed dealing with pressures from work, finances, and family responsibilities. But what if we could pause for a moment to appreciate life?

This is a favourite quote of mine from the great Agatha Christie –

“I like living.  I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow; but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing.”

This quote sums up a sentiment most of us share but few of us remember day-to-day, imagine this; you step outside and the world is alive with colours and sounds.  The rustling leaves, the distant hum of traffic, the way sunlight breaks through tree branches.  You notice the way the clouds drift across the sky, the warmth of your coffee cup against your palms, the laughter of children on their way to school.  This is beauty, pure and simple.  It’s there, always, just waiting to be noticed.

Being present

The journey towards pausing to find the beauty in the every day isn’t about grand gestures or monumental changes.  It is a shift in perception.  Deciding to slow down and look, really look, at the world around you.  Starting to see the extraordinary in the ordinary.  By embracing these small moments, you can find a deeper sense of contentment.  Every day can be a new opportunity to discover something wonderful.  Once your perspective shifts so will your experience of the world around you.

Embrace the Beauty Around You

So, how do you begin to see the beauty in your everyday life? It starts with presence, with a conscious decision to slow down and observe. Here are some ways to get started:

  • Observe Your Surroundings: Take a moment each day to really look at the world around you. Notice the details, the texture of a leaf, the pattern of a shadow, the rhythm of the rain.
  • Engage Your Senses: Listen to the sounds of your environment, savour the flavours of your meals.  Engage fully with each moment.
  • Practice Gratitude: At the end of each day, write down three beautiful moments you observed.  This practice can help you cultivate a habit of looking for and appreciating the positive aspects of your life.

Today, find beauty in three ordinary moments.  Write them down in a journal or capture them in a photo. This simple action can help you become more mindful and appreciative of the world around you. By focusing on these small moments of beauty, you can enrich your daily life and cultivate a greater sense of joy and contentment.
